We provide a number of 'bundles' to help you get up in small workshops with this extractor. This extractor is only suitable for the smallest home workshops. We sell the all of the fittings separately if you need to come up with a custom configuration.

If you wish to receive the extractor without any ducting, please select 'Extractor Only' in all the dropdown boxes. You will not be able to purchase 'Extractor Only' with any ducting options for obvious reasons.

We send a set of instructions with each bundle to help everything run smoothly.

THE CLARKE MINI DUST EXTRACTOR

The Clarke Mini Dust Extractor is an affordable dust extractor suitable for a small workshop with a limited amount of ducting (up to 3m or 2m with a cyclone) and perhaps one or maximum two workstation outlets fitted with blast gates. The induction motor runs reasonably quietly.

For use in the fossil preparation workshop, it is necessary to make a number of minor modifications to the way the Clarke dust extractor is rigged up. Please see our additional diagrams for reference.

  • W750 Watt (1Hp) 230V motor
  • Flow rate: 850m3/h (450CFM) with 100mm ducting
  • 100mm (4") hose attachment port
  • Dimensions (LWH) 470x380x460mm
  • Weight: 22kg
  • Noise: 50-60dB(A) - reasonably quiet induction motor
  • Fuse Rating: 13 Amp

Important

The Clarke Mini Dust Extractor is a very small unit, only suitable for very short ducting runs with minimal amounts of flexible ducting and as few bends as possible. It should be used to extract a maximum of one workstation at a time, and a maximum of two workstations in total (with only one operating at a time using blast gates). The ducting in the workshop should measure no more than 2-3m maximum (less if you require a cyclone). If you have a larger workshop, require a longer length of ducting or have more workstations, you will need a larger, more powerful extractor.

For use in the fossil preparation workshop, it is necessary to make a number of minor modifications to the way the Clarke dust extractor is rigged up. Please see our additional diagrams for reference below.

1. Take the bag off - the bag is rated for 5 microns. The most dangerous dust to inhale is smaller than 5 microns, and so you would actively put yourself in danger by using it. If you weren't aware of the risks of respirable silica (present in stone dust), have a read of our Health & Safety in fossil prep article.

2. This extractor comes with hooks to so that it can be wall mounted. There are two hooks provided, which can be fitted to the wall. The extractor can have its castors removed and be mounted to these hooks. Ensure that the fixings and your wall are strong enough to handle not only the weight of the extractor, but its vibration during operation. We would recommend changing the orientation of the extractor to 'outlet facing up' rather than outlet facing down if you are venting outdoors, this will allow the vent to be higher off the ground.

You can also mount the extractor horizontally on the table if you need to, but you may need to purchase some extra fittings to suit your configuration (likely at least 1 extra 90 degree elbow). It is better, if you can, to wall-mount the extractor to improve efficency by reducing the number of bends.

3. Use ducting to vent outdoors. You'll be able to mount this where the bag was. Hook up the 100mm ducting in your workshop into the inlet.

4. You might be able to get a qualified electrician in to rewire it with a wall mounted on/off switch closer to where you work.

Please be aware that using the Clarke extractor for stone dust or abrasive (whether purchased through us or another dealer), invalidates the warranty. Therefore it is essential that you plug it in and test it first to check that all is in good order before proceeding to rig it up.  Please note that this product has a UK plug and runs at 230V. However, if you are an international customer and would still like to purchase, please email us with your address so that we can generate a unique shipping quote for you as this is a heavy, bulky item.

You will need some basic DIY skills and tools to install your dust extractor and ducting. If you are not confident, please ask a friend or family member to help. You will need a few tools: measuring tape, way of cutting a hole (larger than 100mm) through the wall, jigsaw with a metal blade, drill and metal drill bits, file to smooth burrs, gloves, face/eye protection.

We use galvanised ducting because:

1. It withstands the abrasive nature of stone dust and abrasive dusts well.

2. It can be grounded which is essential when working with explosive/flammable dusts such as iron powder. Electricians are able to ground your ducting for you if you are not confident in doing this yourself.

CONFIGURATIONS

We have a number of bundles available to help you get set up easily. Please note these kits are ONLY intended for home workshop use. If you run a commercial premises, you will likely need to consult an LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) engineer to ensure you are compliant with regulations.

You will need to make a few decisions before purchasing a bundle. You also may need to make some adjustments to make a bundle suit your workshop. You may wish to read our article on Dust Extraction to help you make some of these decisions.

1. Decide whether the extractor will be mounted to the left or right of the workspace.

2. Decide whether to vent the dust into the open air or into a container like a water butt.

3. Decide the layout inside your workshop.

4. Decide the positioning of the ducting inside your workshop – high up or low down? You can either install your extraction high up, near the ceiling, and drop down to each workstation. This is the most popular option. However, you can run the ducting along the back of your workbenches if you have cabinets/wall fittings on the walls. Bear in mind that this will reduce your workbench space.

5. Wherever you locate your extractor, you will need to be able to reach and access the on/off switch. An electrician may be able to rewire this to an on/off switch.

Positioning of the dust extractor - to the left or to the right?

First, decide whether your extractor will be mounted to the left or right of your workspace. This will affect where the inlet and outlet are oriented. Mounting the extractor to the left of your workspace is slightly simpler, and will improve its efficiency. Fewer bends and less ducting are required with this configuration, and with this, the extractor will perform better. It is also easier to install.

IN THE WORKSHOP

Option 1 - 1 Workstation

This is suitable for workshops with one workstation. Because there is no dust cyclone as part of this option, we would recommend this option for those of you only using air scribes. Black arrows indicate the location of hose clamps.

Option 2 - 1 Workstation, Room for Growth

This is suitable for workshops with one workstation, but leaves it possible to add in another. For instance, if you have an air scribe, and plan someday to use air abrasives, this would give you the option to easily change your set up. Because there is no dust cyclone as part of this option, we would recommend this option for those of you only using air scribes. Black arrows indicate the location of hose clamps.

IMPORTANT: Do not use Tecseal FR100 on the end cap to t-piece join. The end cap has a rubber seal. This will allow it to be removed as required in the future.

Option 3 - 1 Workstation, Air Abrasives

This is suitable for workshops with one workstation, suitable for use with air abrasives. This option has a dust cyclone, which will help to clean the air before it is vented to the atmosphere. It will also help you collect and recycle air abrasive powders were applicable. Black arrows indicate the location of hose clamps.

It is up to you where you place the dust cyclone. You can drill two holes in your workbench, or have the cyclone next to or on top of your workbench. We use a dust cyclone to limit the dust being vented to the atmosphere (which is a requirement in many countries).

Extractor to right, stack venting: Extractor, Cyclone with Bucket, Flexible Ducting 100mm (2m), Galvanised ducting (3m), 2* 90 Degree Elbow, 5* Hose Clamp, 1* Tecseal 140g, 5* Wall mounting clips, 1* Female-Female Coupler

Option 4 - 1 Workstation, Air Abrasives

This is suitable for workshops with two workstations. One is suitable for use with air abrasives. This option has a dust cyclone, which will help to clean the air before it is vented to the atmosphere. It will also help you collect and recycle air abrasive powders were applicable. The other, open workstation is designed for use with air scribes. Blast gates are fitted to allow areas of ducting to be shut off. Black arrows indicate the location of hose clamps.

IMPORTANT: The blast gate must be installed as close to the extractor as is sensible in the duct with the dust cyclone. When closed, air should not be able to enter the dust cyclone bucket as this would reduce efficiency of the extraction.
